Rubber Joint Filler

Updated: Mar 27

Matlex Rubber's Expansion Joint Fillers

Joint fillers are a special type of rubber that can be used to fill the space between two objects that are touching each other. They can be used for both aesthetic and functional purposes, depending on which joint filler you choose.

In the case of aesthetic applications, joint fillers are used to smooth out the appearance of joints between two objects. This is especially helpful in situations where you want to disguise a joint that may not have been done perfectly or looks unsightly. For example, if you were trying to hide a gap between two pieces of furniture in your home, using a joint filler would be an option.

Joint fillers are also useful in situations where they provide a functional purpose as well. An example of this would be if you needed to bridge gaps between two pipes that couldn't touch without creating an air leak. Using a joint filler made specifically for this purpose would allow them to be joined together without any damage occurring due to contact with each other.

Rubber Joint Fillers are used to fill in the gaps between a joint and its surrounding surface, creating a watertight seal. They're often used in plumbing fixtures and plumbing pipe systems, as well as other areas where there is a need for an airtight or waterproof seal.

Two types of Expansion Joint Fillers

Matlex Rubber Joint Fillers

Pre-molded Foam Rubber Expansion Joint Filler (PEJ)

Used for water project, roads, construction of concrete structure, used as expansion joint filler. Original Board specification is (8 feet x 4 feet x 8mm – 250mm thick. We can produce any processing 5mm – 250mm thick according to client’s requirements. More cheaper/affordable that performed joint filler. Hardness 25 to 30+-. Smooth finish appearance.

Performed Rubber Expansion Joint Filler

Used for water project, roads, construction of concrete structure, used as expansion joint filler. Typical size to produce is (20mm x 400mmW x 8mm – 250mm thick. We can produce any processing 5mm – 250mm thick according to client’s requirements. Price is higher than PEJ due to its lifespan capability that last 5 to 10 years. Hardness 35 to 40+-. Rough finish appearance.

Uses of Expansion Joint Fillers

Expansion joint filler is mostly utilized in civil engineering. It is perfect for sidewalk, driveway, and street joints, as well as single- and multi-level floor slab connections. It is one of the most important materials used to build general highways, airports, bridges, and other buildings.

Advantages of Expansion Joint Fillers

· Minimal face-to-face measurements

Rubber expansion joints with small face-to-face dimensions save money as compared to more expensive bends or loops. The pipe itself may cost less or no more than a rubber expansion joint, but total costs are higher when plant space, installation manpower, supports, and pressure decreases are factored in.

· Lightweight

Rubber expansion joints are light in weight and do not require any special handling equipment to position, which contributes to lower installation labor costs.

· Low movement forces are needed.

Rubber expansion joints' intrinsic flexibility allows for practically infinite flexing to recover from forced movements, needing relatively less force to move and preventing damage to motive equipment.

· Corrosion and erosive resistance

The sector has access to a wide range of natural, synthetic, and special purpose elastomers and textiles. Materials are treated and blended to withstand a wide variety of practical operating pressure and temperature conditions, as well as corrosive attack, abrasion, and erosion.

· No Gaskets

Elastomeric expansion joints are supplied with vulcanized rubber and fabric flanges that are incorporated with the tube, eliminating the need for gaskets. The expansion joint's sealing surfaces equalize unequal pipe flange surfaces to form a fluid and gas-tight seal.

· Resistance with noises

Because the elastomeric nature of the joint functions as a dampener that absorbs the highest amount of noise and vibration, elastomeric expansion joints greatly reduce noise transmission in piping systems.

Key Features of Expansion Joint Fillers
