Expansion
Joint Fillers
Joint fillers are materials used to seal and fill gaps or joints in various construction and building applications. They are commonly used to prevent the intrusion of moisture, debris, and air into joints, which helps maintain the structural integrity and aesthetics of a building. Joint fillers come in various forms, including liquid sealants, foam, and flexible materials, making them versatile for different construction needs.

Types of Expansion Joint Fillers for Bridges and Structural Applications
-
Bitumen-Impregnated Joint Filler is made from compressed fiberboard saturated with bitumen, offering excellent resistance to water, chemicals, and weathering. Its high compressibility and flexibility make it suitable for bridge decks, concrete roadways, and heavy-duty slabs. This type of joint filler is ideal for use in bridge expansion joints—including under finger-type joints—as well as roads and retaining walls. It is moisture-resistant, economical, and accommodates joint movement effectively.
-
Rubber Joint Filler Board is manufactured from high-quality natural or synthetic rubber, providing high elasticity and excellent resistance to impact, weathering, and fatigue. These fillers are commonly used in structures subjected to dynamic loads, such as bridge expansion joints, airport pavements, industrial flooring, and modular expansion joint systems. Their high resilience and long service life make them ideal for load-absorbing applications.
-
Cork Expansion Joint Filler is a naturally compressible, lightweight, and eco-friendly material that expands and contracts in sync with structural movement. It is best suited for lighter structural applications such as pavements, buildings, retaining walls, and light bridge structures. Cork fillers are valued for being recyclable, thermally insulating, and providing long-lasting compressibility in both indoor and outdoor environments.
-
Closed-Cell Foam Filler (Polyethylene/EVA) consists of preformed foam boards that are lightweight, flexible, and water-resistant. These fillers are suitable for both vertical and horizontal joints and are commonly used in precast elements, concrete joints, vertical wall applications, and deck slabs. Thanks to their closed-cell structure, they are non-absorbent, easy to install, and cost-effective for general construction use.
-
High-Density Polyurethane (HDPU) Joint Filler is a rigid, closed-cell foam material designed for use in heavy-load structural expansion joints. It is especially suitable for bridge decks, airport runways, modular expansion systems, highways, and industrial floors. HDPU is frequently used in combination with elastomeric sealants, bituminous membranes, and steel joint covers, particularly in systems such as metal finger-type joints. It provides excellent load-bearing capacity, high recovery after compression, and long-term resistance to water, chemicals, and environmental wear.
